One simple tool to be Productive: MDN

We all assume that productivity is a real hard work with a lot of planning. In the rush of being productive, we always miss simple tools and steps which can bring a mammoth change in our work style and hence our productivity.

It’s rightly said by someone

“Simplicity is highly underrated”

One point I highlighted which can be the simplest way, still be one of the important tools in your productivity kit. I named it MDN. I emphasized on this tool in my Amazon Bestseller book The 7 Productivity Sutras for Professionals”. This tool can not only make your day pleasant but also can end your day with the satisfaction of accomplishing more.

MDN is an acronym for My Do-Nothing time.

Step1: Observe your daily routine for 1 week and should include weekend. If possible, note it down before sleeping. You can list what tasks you did today without judging yourself. Your most active and dull time. An active time when you were feeling yourself oozing with energy and a dull time when you don’t feel like doing anything.

Step2: Step1 will give you a fair idea of your MDN. It may be almost at the same time every day if you are following a kind of routine for your food and sleep.

Step3: Once your dull moment is identified, mark it as MDN, My Do-Nothing time. During this MDN time, try to relax and recharge, with no effort of picking any new task or even continuing with your ongoing task. You can take this time to recharge yourself by doing quick meditation, deep breathing exercise or just sit and reflect on what you have done till now and what “to-do item” is more important for the next part of the day to accomplish. You MDN time need not to be very long. It can be just 10-15 minutes.

Does It happen many a time that we are so deep in our work, we lose our consciousness about the importance of that work? Is there any other urgent task to be accomplished than the task you are doing now ? There is no time for self-reflection. Our action is more of just a routine or fire fighting instead of a deliberate or planned activity.

By getting one or two chunks of MDN time a day, you can observe a miraculous change in your productivity. You can tick more to-do items in your list and able to finish tasks that matter most. You will have more time to analyze your most important task. Just sit and reflect during your do-nothing time, just do Nothing, no action, no item from to-do list.
